Can you receive the holy spirit if you lie to your members for over 100 years, cover up all your transgressions, blame others for your false prophecies, protect child molesters and show enough hypocrisy to condemn other religions for these things?

Disgusting comment re: holy spirit from the Tacoma 2007 District Convention
by TJ - iAmCleared2Land inthe thread re: education at the tacoma convention inspired this.
my sister called me this morning, she had the convention in tacoma last weekend.
she said she tried not to listen as much as possible, but the comment that got her steamed was this:.

Why do witnesses intentionally avoid having kids?
by NotaNess in1) don't want to deal with it at meetings is what i think would be on the top of the list.they see what others have to go through.. 2) i know a married couple jws, that are avoiding having kids, and i've heard of reasons from them like.... "don't want to raise them up in this system".
"time is too short".
"i'll wait until the next system of things".

One of my brothers and his wife have three. He's getting snipped so that they don't have anymore. I'm not sure what the society's view on this is, but he's doing it anyway. My oldest brother and two sisters have all decided not to have them, partly because the time is so short, partly because they are all pioneering and kids would interfere with that. I think that a lot of JWs get married young and have kids so that they have an excuse to not pioneer like they're expected to. They either pioneer or start families. They never put off having kids so that they have more time for themselves. That's not an option for them.

A religion where all you do is drink beer and smoke pot, and I can watch the Packers afterwards without feeling guilty about not going out in the ministry. It will be my highest priority.

Zeppelin was a little before my time(would've loved to see them in their prime though). I did have a chance to go to a Metallica concert in 91 though. I passed on it at the time. What was I thinking.

good in jehovah's witnesses
by John Doe ini thought it might be nice to see some positive things mentioned about jw's.
now, i know mentioning these things may be hard given the experiences here, but i've yet to find a group of people who don't have something positive about them.
if there weren't something positive, no one would ever join.

neverending, I agree with you wholeheartedly. I was speaking collectively, not as individuals. I have family and friends still in. I have mostly fond memories of the people that I used to worship with. It's just frustrating to not be able to make them see or even consider the flaws in their beliefs.

? for you all
by MUNKAFATS inwe all have different talents etc and as ive never been a witness just read their books why is it that we have 3 kids and our youngest has a gifted mathmatical mind (teacher says hes in the top %2 of the population at 5 years old ) .
would the jw then say this is from satan ?
and if not then why could he not use it to his greater good , my question isnt about jw doctrine , i just think about this when jw come to visit me as its got to be from somewhere ??

I have no problem with faith as long as it isn't based on something that's proven beyond a doubt to be false.

They're firm in their convictions. They won't even let things like facts and logic sway them. How's that?

I always thought there was a certain phoniness to them. Not all of them but a lot of them. The more zealous they are, the more phony. My oldest brother's wife on the surface seems like the world's nicest, warmest person. She's always smiling, she's always the first one to hug and try to encourage new ones. But she is the most judgmental person you will ever meet. She has no empathy for anyone who struggles spiritually. She has no tolerance for anyone who isn't as zealous as she is. I remember how critical she would be of me or my other brother when we would do or say anything she deemed to be worldly. I'm using her as an example of what I thought was prevalent among JWs. A lot of them were just so totally fake.

Their unwillingness to see credibility in any line of reasoning that might be in conflict with what the FDS feeds them. They're so convinced that they have the truth, yet they're not willing to put it to any kind of test. If it contradicts what's in their publications, it's a lie, no matter how much evidence you show them.
